Installed IDE CD-ROM drive does not work due to incorrect cable orientation.
Cause:
Orientation of the data cable connected to the CD-ROM drive is wrong.
Solution:
Turn off the computer, and disconnect external power cords. Push on the ribbon cable ends making sure the cable is fully seated onto the connector. Replace the computer cover, reconnect external power cables, and turn on the computer.
WARNING: Electrical shock hazard! Make sure the power is turned off and the external power cables have been disconnected before removing the computer cover.
CAUTION 1: This task should be performed by a qualified computer technician.
CAUTION 2: Please observe steps to reduce the potential damage to computer components from electrostatic discharge.
1) Remove the computer cover.
2) Make sure the power cord is disconnected from the computer.
3) Check to see if the color keyed side of the ribbon cable connector is connected to the pin one position of the CD-ROM drive and the IDE controller.
NOTE: If there is another drive device is connected IDE controller with the CD-ROM, make sure that the color keyed side of the ribbon cable connector is connected to the pin one position on the other device.
4) If the color keyed side of the ribbon cable is not connected to pin one, unplug the cable and reconnect the cable so that the color keyed side matches pin one.
5) Replace the computer cover.
6) Connect the external power cord to the computer, and turn on the computer.
